iTunesAudiobooks not purchased from iTunes or Audible will not show correctly in your iTunes “Audiobooks” folder. Follow this steps to get ripped audiobooks or audiobooks downloaded from other sources into your iTunes “Audiobooks” folder:

  1. Download and install this AppleScript as per the readme file to help convert the audiobook for iTunes
  2. Open iTunes and under iTunes > Preferences > Advanced > Importing, switch “Import Using” to “AAC Encoder”
  3. Drag your audiobook .mp3 file into your iTunes Library or use File > Import to import the new audiobook
  4. Highlight the new audiobook you have imported, the audiobook shows up under “Music” in your library because iTunes doesn’t recognize it as an audiobook yet
  5. Choose Advanced > Convert Selection to AAC
  6. Two versions of the audiobook now appear in your library, highlight the second version
  7. From Doug’s AppleScript under the script icon in your iTunes menu choose “Make Bookmarkable” and allow the script to prepare the audiobook properly
  8. The script should have moved one version of your audiobook to your “Audiobooks” folder so you can now delete the remaining version that is in your “Music” folder

You may want to go back and switch your iTunes import preferences to whatever you had before if you don’t want to always import with AAC.

I’ve got the mp3 audiobooks into m4b format but how can I make a new folder in the audiobook library so that I can split up audiobooks into their cd equivalents? Basically my audiobook library needs to be organized.
