OS X Leopard Release Date Prediction Tracker

OS X Leopard will be delayed seriously. Apple has already failed to release Apple TV on time. Jobs said Apple TV would be here in February and it wasn’t. They’ve already changed the site to show “Ships: Mid March”. I wouldn’t be suprised if it ships later than that.

This is because it is right after the WWDC07 where they will probably introduce Leopard along with the iPhone (since they are compatable), also July 17th is a Tuesday (historic apple release day), and the biggest hint is on the Apple.com Leopard Sneak Peek where the date on the iCal is July 17th. I for one have been holding onto my iBook G4 that I bought just a few months before the intel macs came out. I didn’t want to buy the new hardware because if there were new hardware problems (and there were), they’d be harder/less convenient to fix than OS updates.

Once Apple announces that computers purchased at some date can get the Leopard release, then I’ll be ready to buy…not before then. Boy am I getting impatient, though.

Another thing I have been woundering, it seems as if alot of people are waiting to buy their new Macbook Pro, including me, until Leopard is released which begs the question if one should invest in stocks right now and sell directly after the Leopard release, which will probably make the stock price go through the roof, just like iPhone did, well at least until yesterday.

Only the iPod touch was under that little thing. The iPod shuffle, iPod nano and iPod classic started shipping the moment the Apple Store was back up. I was watching the entire event very carefully that day. Paying very close attention to the shipping dates prices iPod specs

Once again I say October 26th. I did some further digging and the timing of it being actually released to the public on that date fits with some other things. Most notably as one said on another site that “Apple tends to release products on the last or second to last Friday of the month” in October that would be October 19th or October 26th. However, they haven’t followed with the tradition of the count down timer so anything before October 19th is out. Furthermore many suspect the announcement at the Paris Expo.

So It will be announced this month at the Paris Expo. Count down timer will be put up on September 26th. Mac OS X Leopard will be released to the public on October 26th. All the pieces fit. My post on here before was more of a feeling. Now it’s a very strong feeling and a highly educated guess.

Once again it’s getting released on October 26th.

I knew Apple was going to start shipping their systems with Blu-Ray drives sooner or later. I was hoping for sooner though. I would rather not wait though. And an external drive would cost too much. During the last Apple event in which the iPod Touch was revealed, Steve Jobs made a casual and sheepish reference… about Mac OS X Leopard and he said… “when it is released later this year.”

Didn’t anyone else pick up on this? He said it in a kind of defeated tone. I think everyone got caught up in the excitement of the price drop of the iPhone, but for me, this was the big subtle news of the day.

If this isn’t the case, why don’t we hear of the release of the gold disc to manufacturing? That needs to happen at least 1 month before I think.

It’s already late. I heard Steve in previous talks say “End of 2006″, or “The same day Windows Vista ships!”

Vista was delayed to Spring 2007. And it is bizarre that everyone was expecting ‘Secret Features’ to be revealed in the Developer Convention and nothing new was revealed. He talked about the top 10 features, maybe he didn’t mention ‘Desktop Stacks’ in the previous year.

If anything, Sun’s announcement a week or two before that their next generation file system ZFS was going to be in Leopard kind of made sense. That was a juicy tidbit to hold back on. My guess is that the developers said that they can’t put everything in and guarantee stability at the same time… and they had to scale back on what they were striving for and focus on what they believed they could deliver.

From what I hear there isn’t much to jump for joy about Vista. So Apple better do the right thing and delay if they need to by another month to improve stability.

Recent seed was 21 Sep? That’s way too close to October. Maybe they’ll make it… but the timeline is extremely tight.

Almost irrespective of date, this is really key for me; I’m holding on buying a new Mini, but if I knew that, for example, machines bought in the month prior to release would get a free upgrade to Leopard, that would suit me, and I’d order now (well, maybe a couple of more days!).

The “for Dummies” series of products is one to go by. They will release their product as close to the release of the product their book is for as possible. Plus Wal-Mart has messed up many times. I believe someone slipped up along the lines. I’ve thought about it more and still keep coming to the same conclusion. Leopard is rattling its cage… and the warden is cautiously approaching the cage with the key to let Leopard loose.

I know this because the Mac OS X recertification exams are changing as of 15th October.
They did the same thing after the PPC/Intel transition.

Make sure to get down to your local Apple Store to pick up a copy on the 15th.

October 9th, or 16th - the first 3 weeks of October - ruling out Oct. 2nd as being too early for October. October 22nd is a better bet, because I don’t think Apple would wait til the last Tuesday of October (29th) to release Leopard just so it’s “released in the nick of time.”

Of course, the announcement could be made on those dates (9th or 16th) and, like the iPhone, be released for sale later. I hope Apple would do a pre-order on those dates.

If Leopard isn’t for sale the day of its announcement, then it would be later. Say it’s announced on the 9th, it would be in stores and shipping on the 19th.

Just my thought.

or you could just buy the computer you need now. go to your bookstore and probably pay less for Leopard than you do for the average college biology text……..

I agree completely with you on that one. It’s the best route to go if you’re currently in college and waiting on Leopards release.

i wouldn’t be. I made a choice to wait for Leopard. I’ve had bad experiences installing operating systems via the update route. It’s going to be a nightmare when I update my laptop from XP to Vista Ultimate. In my case it’s not about money. It’s about waiting on the release so there isn’t a hassle to install a new OS. Either way you look at it you gotta go through all the install steps you did when you bought your computer.

That’s not to say I wouldn’t do some swearing if I had just bought the computer and then the next day the new OS is out. I’m not sure about everyone else. But even in that event I would fork over 129 bucks for Leopard. Though I do hope they offer a free upgrade.

I reckon its entirely possible that with the introduction of Leopard, they will also bring out a piece of software that allows you to use your iMac similar to how you use an ATM machine.

1) That way stick to traditional release days of a wednesday (i think someone said it was earlier in this discussion).
2) Gives maximum amount of time for release preparation whilst still being in october as promised
3) On apple education stores if you order a new iMac BEFORE October 30 then you get a new iPod nano or equivalent rebate. By releasing leopard on the 31st when there will be a surge in iMac purchases Apple wont have to also give away a load of nanos for free (hence improving profit)
4)offering free nanos with iMac purchases (to people in education at least) up until the october 30 is a significant attraction to many to buy a mac and in doing so it limits the drop off in october sales of mac computers caused by people waiting for the anticipated arrival of Leopard.

just my reasoning behind why i think october 31 as leopard release date.
(I hope i’m wrong tho cos im desperate to get a new iMac! lol.)

Second, my gut tells me it will be late in the month. I read an article about how they might be putting the Santa Rosa architecture into the MacBook which would give you a max of 4 gigs of RAM and a possible 2.33 GHz CPU max upon initial release. Of course at that point I’m more then sure they will announce upgrades to the MacBook Pro. I’ve been waiting for some further confirmation on Leopard’s release date. So far… everything points to October 26th.

Went to Best Buy today and I asked the computer specialist if he knew when Leopard was coming out, and he said with such certainty that it would be coming out on Friday Oct 26th. Not sure if he received official news, but my guess is that he just heard rumors which may very well come out to be true. I was guessing that date based on prior release dates, but was really hoping for something sooner. Thankfully, they junked out my laptop a couple weeks ago and said I can pick out a new one under my PSP. That is why I am waiting till Leopard is released or at least until it is announced so that I can pick up a MacBook and get the OS X upgrade for free or pay the shipment costs. Anyhow, based on articles I have read I think they will announce it on the 16th, and release on the 26th.

I highly doubt and don’t believe a Feb. 2008 delay of Leopard; unless Billy Joe has an official source (Apple themselves) saying Leopard will be delayed until Feb. 2008. I remember when Jobs announced the release of the iPhone he said they didn’t have resources and man power to release a completed version of both the iPhone and Leopard on time. They had to choose one or the other and they chose the iPhone as the higher priority. If I remember correct, they also released the final developer release of Leopard for final testing. You don’t do that till you have all the features working, have tested it countless times, have sent numerous releases to developers already, tested and debugged some more, and are inches away from a final seamless release. Most importantly, the Apple site still says, Leopard arrives in October, so they must be on track. I hold on to my Oct. 23rd – 24th prediction.

At at first apple was shooting for a release in early June but then it got set back due to the iPhone and Vista Problems with Bootcamp and their drivers… Now it was setback to end of October due to Vista Service Pack 1 which was released to developers 3 weeks ago… Apple decided to wait to make sure Microsoft didn’t cripple vista for macs in the service pack… The Vista service pack for consumers will be release late 2007 most likely in November…

Last thing I heard about the Macbook Pro, and this is a rumor not confirmed but told by someone who works for apple is the HD screens will become standard on all models.. Also i have information not confimed but very accurate most of the time that says MBP will start including intel core 2 quad…Blu Ray drives may be introduced as an option or standard on Highest End Model…

I have heard alot of people thinking that the Macbooks will be redesigned to the brushed metal design.. I do not believe this is true due to apple only redesigns computers every 3-5 years for major cosmetic changes.. Look how long the imac and the ibooks lasted.

I did hear of a possible product line cut to the mac minis.. This i can not tell for sure but i have been hearing about them being cut from the line due to low sales…

If Leopard is pushed back it will be completely unexpected and a major let down… I do not believe hollios info is true due to it has gone gold master… meaning as we speak they are making the disks for it. gold master defined as Final Code…

If you add all that up along with Apple’s release history its a pretty safe guess that macbook upgrades are next in line. When will it be? IDK. But it doesn’t hurt to wish for it to be together with Leopard.

Other hardware updates like Blu-ray, HD screens, design changes, and mac nano are highly possible but they more likely to be off in the future.

I’ll give everyone on here this. Through all the digging I’ve done I’ve come to a couple of conclusions.

The MacBook Pro is going to have a quad core CPU in it, a high rez screen, and LED backlighting. Perhaps a cosmetic change is coming probably not in this year or next year though. The MacBook is due for a cosmetic change though. Apple is taking a more environmentally friendly stance. So I would imagine they are going to have colored aluminum cases at some point in time. When is anyones guess. Also bear in mind that Apple is highly unlikely to put any HD-DVD drives in any of their computers. This is because back in 2005, I could be wrong on the year, Apple joined the BDA (Blu-Ray Disc Association). Also from what I’ve spotted it does seem the Mac Mini may be ousted. In favor of a slimmer replacement. Plus the addition of another laptop, possibly a tablet. That would be something like a MacBook Mini or MacTablet… you can have fun with the naming of it. Like I said though thats all from what I’ve dug up.

I placed an order for an iMac, so to speak, knowing full well that there may be possible problems with the graphics card. That’s caused by the firmware/driver however you want to put it. Last I heard Apple is working their tails of trying to get it fixed. I don’t know if thats the only problem. I don’t really care because from what I’ve seen of their track record, it’ll get fixed sooner or later. From what I know, and I could be off a bit on many areas here as I haven’t checked on it recently, it’s only affecting the computer during times when the graphics card is being used heavily. When this problem occurs a simple reboot will get the system back to normal but will/may-not fix the problem.

Go to the Apple support site and go to the discussion boards for more information. That would be one of the best places to go. Due to what I’ve read on here and thanks in part to the very generous Jeff Uberstein I’m holding off on purchasing a MacBook Pro for awhile. Partly because of a hardware upgrade and partly because Apple has to clear out the stock of computers that have Tiger preinstalled.

Tommy, I did a little digging. Quad core CPU’s will be coming to the MacBook Pro line. Just not as soon as I thought. By the looks of it the update after the one thats coming for the MacBook Pro or the one a year from now will add the Quad core chip to the MacBook Pro. Intel has the chip and it should be released in early 2008. I mentioned the HD displays mainly for the 17 inch model of the MacBook Pro, which is what I’ll be getting. The Blu-ray drives is a highly educated guess based on the fact that Apple joined the BDA (Blu-ray Disc Association). Larger hard drive is a possibility and more RAM is also a possibility and if they bump the CPU even more then thats all the better.
