If our Leopard Release Date Prediction Tracker isn’t proof enough that hopes for a spring release date of OS X Leopard are fading, the new seed of Leopard recently released to developers should be enough to convince you that the actual release date for Leopard is as uncertain as a 20 minute Vista upgrade and as far off as . . . well, . . . something that’s pretty far away.
Jobs and Co. have been predicting a “Spring 2007″ release date but the new build of Leopard, build 9A377a, and some serious known issues about Leopard have most insiders doubting a release date that’s just around the corner.
Appleinsider says
Serious issues also remain with audio playback in HD movies, hanging webpages in Safari, adding shared folders, disabling Bluetooth sharing, screen sharing, system backups, iCal data migration, photo snapshots during set up, and dragging files from network volumes and disk images to their local machine.
“Privacy option in the Spotlight Preference Pane currently does not work,” Apple reportedly wrote in documentation accompanying the latest Leopard build. “Videos purchased through the iTunes Store do not play in iTunes.”
iTunes incompatibility is something that helped Apple fail the Vista upgrade test and the thought of such a core issue being a problem this late in the game makes one wonder “just how big of an overhaul is Leopard anyway”.
A few smart assess have pointed out that “Spring 2007″ technically means “until June 20, 2007″ but don’t hold your breath. Be sure to jump over to our tracker and place your Leopard Release Date bet.

I’m putting off buying a new Macbook till Leopard comes out. I think a number of people are also. Apple should think of us waiting, and get on the job(s).

Like Matthew and Jeannine, I’m waiting to buy my school laptop for Leopard. It would really be a bummer to buy my Laptop and then buy an upgrade two months later.

I am also considering buying a macbook for school, and was hoping Leopard would come out before I had to leave. If it doesn’t would we have to upgrade to Leopard two months later or not? Because I’ve heard rumors that it could be discounted or free for person(s) who purchased macbooks with tiger between jan-07 and whenever Leopard comes out. Is this true?

Same here…another student waiting on Leopard to get my macbook. I am hoping Apple will be reluctant to knock out a release date in 08 seeing as how their original date was spring 07. Perhaps this fall, maybe?

I could not wait - i realize that leopard was not coming out until october and i can’t wait that long because of school. I bought a MacBook at the end of may and am going to have to upgrade- it would be nice if there was a discount for people who just bought a new computer.

Apple’s support for new OS on older hardware is good (e.g. OS-X 10.4 goes on G5 hardware very easily and runs well) so there is little reason to hold off a hardware purchase waiting for a software upgrade … excepting, of course, the cost of the upgrade.
