How much will Vista really cost you? Unless you just want to install Vista, boot the machine and look at it, Vista will actually cost you quite a bit more than the purchase price. Tim Weber had a tough time upgrading his machine to take make Vista work. Tim’s version of the true cost to upgrade Vista is a fine print nightmare.
I had read somewhere that a Vista installation would take 20 minutes. Not if you upgrade from XP. After three-and-a-half hours of churning, at long last the Vista logo filled my screen. It was the beginning of a day of anguish.
Tim had trouble with really tough stuff like
- Getting on the internet after installing Vista
- Getting webcams to work after installing Vista
- Getting a sound card to work after installing Vista
- Getting “disk full errors” while installing Vista
- Getting his Windows Mobile Pocket PC to hook up to Vista
Sometimes I wish I actually had a Windows box around just so I could see firsthand what fun it must be to upgrade to Vista.
I will not give up. There must be a positive user Vista upgrade experience posted somewhere.
