His (Seung-Hui Cho) family is suffering just as much as the other families.

While this is true , and it is not up to me to offer up forgivness. I can say that it is hard for us to offer up respects to some one who has brought so much pain and greif. While we pray for his family as they lost a son many lost a friend, brother , sister , aunt , uncle , and also mothers and father . That had no idea that he held so much dispair , anger and hate ! Many may have been more of a friend had he spoke ,ask for help or anything! He chose to alinate people! Plain and simple why they are morning the loss so are so many more folks mourning a friend , brother , sister , aunt , uncle , mother and father and perhaps a grandma , or grandpa. He stole so many 1st and he stole so many dreams , dreams that can NOT be gotten back ! It is hard to cry for the killer knowing that !

I think the comment is a bit ambiguous as to where the family’s suffering is placed. My guess is that they are mourning what he did and all the people he killed, and not their own loss of a son. I was unsure of the quote when it was posted. I thought to myself, after they revealed his name, that his family must feel terrible and somehow responsible for the violence. I may be wrong, but the brief coverage that I saw, and the public statement his sister released, indicates they are grieving for his carnage and not because their killer-son is dead.

Whether the “family is suffering just as much as the other families” is another matter.

Profound? I don’t know if I would label it profound. It’s sad… the whole thing is sad… but the idea that this young woman believes Seung-Hui Cho’s family is suffering in the manner Hokie families are suffering, and felt compelled to state so, is not profound. I believe that Chet is right on the money as far as his interpretation of Seung-Hui Cho’s family’s response.
