Truemors debuted this week to (I think it’s fair to say) an initially negative response. The site seems to have survived the first onslaught of hardcore spammers and after reading Guy Kawaski’s response to an increasingly bitchy blogosphere, it seems the site is obviously well thought out and Guy definitely has some thick skin.
Truemors is bascially setup to drive traffic elsewhere by links dropped by visitors/users. All links at Truemors are “rel=nofollow” so Google and other major search engines won’t count the links and Truemors keeps pagerank. However, Truemors is powered by Wordpress and as such automatcally sends pings to sites like Technorati for each post.
Technorati is counting links from Truemors. How will Technorati deal with Truemors in the long run? Getting a link, or multiple links, at technorati is now as easy as dropping a link at Truemors which takes all of 5 seconds. As of this posting, Truemors has an authority of 207 at Technorati. Not bad for a week’s worth of work, but is that authority really what Technorati had in mind?
