Shifter 1.5 1.6 is now available for Wordpress. Download Shifter for Wordpress.

All about Shifter. (Version 1.5 - Part of the No Complaints Series by Buzzdroid.com)
Install and/or upgrade: Upload the entire Shifter folder to your themes directory and activate Shifter under Presentation/Themes.
Shifter defaults to a 750px wide body width with one 180px sidebar on the left.
Adjust your Shifter settings on the Shifter Settings page under Presentation/Themes/Shifter Settings.
Settings:
- Body Size: Shifter has 4 possible body size widths to choose from. Choose your page width from the body size select box. Shifter supports the following body size widths:
- 750px (default)
- 950px
- 974px
- 100% (fluid width)
- First Sidebar: Choose the width and position of the first sidebar for Shifter from the first sidebar select box. Shifter supports the following sidebar sizes and positions:
- No sidebars
- Sidebar left 160px
- Sidebar left 180px (default)
- Sidebar left 300px
- Sidebar right 180px
- Sidebar right 240px
- Sidebar right 300px
- Second Sidebar: Choose the width and position of the second sidebar for Shifter from the second sidebar select box if you would like a three column layout. Shifter supports the following sidebar sizes and positions for the third column:
- None (default)
- 50/50 (main content column split in half for content and sidebar)
- 66/33 (main content column split 66% content - 33% sidebar)
- 33/66 (main content column split 33% content - 66% sidebar)
- 75/25 (main content column split 75% content - 25% sidebar)
- 25/75 (main content column split 25% content - 75% sidebar)
- Sidebar Shift Options: Choose the default shift options for your sidebar. This option determines if visitors will first be presented with the standard layout for your site or if they will see the switched version of the sidebar options first. For example - a default install of Shifter with a standard shift order setting will present a 180px sidebar on the left that can be flipped to the right side by the user; however, the same default install of Shifter with an alternate shift order setting will present the sidebar on the right. Alternating the shift order can double the layout variations for your site.
- Skin: Choose the skin option for Shifter. Skins change the look of Shifter while keeping the layout intact. Shifter comes with three skins in addition to the basic skin for Shifter. Upload new skins to your /shifter/skins/ directory on your server and the skin will become available for your Shifter. Feel free to develop your own skins for Shifter. Please tell us when you do so we can let the Shifter community know about the release.
- Show Home Link: Shifter places pages from your site in the navigation bar automatically. Some people do not have pages written for their site, only posts. To make sure the navigation bar displays properly, Shifter will insert a link to your home page in the bar automatically. If you customize the links in your navigation bar and do not want your home page to show in the navigation bar, choose not to show the home link for this option.
Release notes and licenses:
Shifter would not be possible without the YUI library developed by Yahoo. Portions of Shifter utilize code included in the YUI library by Yahoo. Shifter also owes a great deal of thanks to Ian Purton who originally developed the YUI Sandbox Theme for Wordpress that helped inspire Shifter.
Shifter is a sponsored link free theme. There are no sponsored links in Shifter. There is a link to our site in the footer because we worked hard on Shifter and feel a footer link is a small price to pay for something as powerful as Shifter. You do not have to keep the link in the footer. If you decide to remove the link, we would still like you to tell us about your use of Shifter. At some point, we may develop a showcase for Shifter and would like to include your site.

Thanks so much for this updated theme. This is exactly what I was looking for. A simple, fast-loading theme with two sidebars. One quick question though . . . I would like to use the bird style sheet, but would also like to change the header pic. Could you tell me what the picture dimensions are and where I can find the place to switch out the picture with one of my own? I can’t seem to find it.
Thanks again. Great work!!!

The header height on the bird skin is 200px. The width is a different story. Because Shifter can be used so many different ways, the width depends on what body size you choose for your Shifter settings.
One of the most incredible features of Shifter is the perfect zoom capabilities. Increase the zoom of any web page (mac ‘⌘ +’, pc ‘ctrl +’) and watch how quickly the page degrades. Not with Shifter. Shifter scales perfectly. To maitain scaling with the header image, images that are faded somewhat from side to side work well. Fading a header image like the bird skin can add a fantastic effect to your website. It really makes things stand out.
We will release a few tutorials in the future about mastering this technique. The bottom line is that a header image that is 200px high and longer than your page width will work wonderfully. If you use an image longer than the the actual page width, your page look will still scale correctly and not degrade when a visitor zooms.

Thanks Tommy for the info. The other question I needed an answer to was this: Where do I find the url that I need in order to replace the bird header with one of my own. In using the theme editor, I can’t seem to find it anywhere. Is in the Stylesheet, Header, Main Page Template or another file? Of course, I could be blind and just not able to see it, but so far I haven’t been able to locate it.
Thanks again for taking the time answer my queries.

All files for the Shifter skins are located in the /skins/ folder of your Shifter install. Unfortunately, editing a theme with the Wordpress theme editor under /Presentation/Theme Editor/ won’t pick up the files that are further down the line. You can edit the skin on your own in a text editor and upload it via http://ftp. For the bird skin, look for /shifter/skins/bird/bird.css and edit there.
